Education is Power

I aim to provide parents, educators, and others the tools they need to make educated decisions to help their children.

The Dyslexia “Red Flags

Realizing that your child is “behind” their peers is a scary moment. It doesn’t matter the age of your child: 1 year or 12 years. Many worries and fears will go through your mind, keeping you up at night. I want to reassure you that everything will work out fine. I promise. The earlier you can intervene on your child’s behalf, the better their outcome. However, even if intervention is late in arriving, there is still hope.

When it comes to dyslexia specifically, there are some “red flags” to be aware of even from preschool age.

What Do I Do Now??

Luckily, there are many things you can do to help your child.

Now that you’ve figured out that there is a problem, what now? How do we provide the support to get your child through this? Never fear, there are a surprising number of ways you can provide the support your child needs to rise above their challenges and be successful.

Dyslexia Support At Home

  • Read paper books to your child. It is important that it be an actual book, read by you.
  • Talk to your child. About anything and everything.
  • Take your child out in the world and talk about what you see and hear.
  • Always have a learning mindset. Guide your child to be curious and ask questions about the world around them.
  • Enrich their vocabulary. Dive into multiple meaning words and more “complex” words.
  • Support their interests and passions. Are they interested in painting? Enroll them in a painting class, or watch painting tutorial videos together. Start up a weekly “paint together” project.
