What books should I read?

If you are new to the world of dyslexia, I’ll share with you some worthwhile reads for both you, and your child.

Parent information

The first, and MOST important read is, of course Dr. Sally Shaywitz‘s book Overcoming Dyslexia.

Overcoming Dyslexia

Dr. Shaywitz is one of the leading experts in dyslexia research. In this book, she outlines the nature of dyslexia and what it looks like in all age groups. Dr. Shaywitz delves deep into the latest research and outlines the necessary components of quality instruction.

The Knowledge Gap

Natalie Wexler’s book The Knowledge Gap is a thought-provoking book on the education system in America. She delves into the politics and money behind the system and possible ways out. Wexler emphasizes the need to provide direct instruction in knowledge. It is a truly mind-shifting book.

Dyslexia books for children

Fish in a Tree by Linda Mullaly Hunt is an excellent fiction book about a girl with dyslexia.

The Alphabet War

This book by Diane Burton Robb is a picture book about dyslexia that my students have loved, no matter the age.
